What are the noise sources of cooling towers?

When a mechanically ventilated cooling tower is in operation, some noise will be generated. Regarding the noise of the cooling tower, there are mainly several sources.

(1) Fan noise:

The noise is mainly composed of mechanical noise and fluid noise;

The sound level noise value at the outlet of the axial flow fan nozzle reaches 80-85dB(A). This is due to the air turbulence in the cooling tower top draft tube and the pressure disturbance induced by friction to produce noise, and the blades interact with the air. Generate vibration and radiate noise. Therefore, it is preliminarily determined that the aerodynamic noise of the fan is the main sound source;

(2) Motor noise:

Electromagnetic sound when the main motor is running;

The mechanical noise of the fan is mainly due to the unbalance of the rotating parts of the fan that causes the structure to vibrate, which causes the radiated noise of the tower body. Since the vibration absorber is installed between the fan bracket and the tower, the mechanical noise is not the main factor;

(3) Ventilation noise:

It mainly includes the air fluid noise inside and outside the tower and the tower resonance noise.

The intensity of the impact noise produced by the circulating water of the cooling tower falling freely through the filler layer to the sink is proportional to the square of the falling water velocity. The measurement results show that the sound level noise of falling water reaches 70-75dB(A), which is one of the noise sources that need to be managed by the cooling tower.
